Tomb Farm – A brief summary of the past, present, and future plans of our Farm!
Our story begins 7 generations ago, in the 1790s, when my 5th great grandfather, David Tomb, and his family were among the first group of eight families of the Associate Reformed Church in Armagh, Ireland to migrate to what would become Armagh, Pennsylvania in Indiana County. David passed away in the August of 1838, but left behind a legacy that would grow into over 200 years of farming and land stewardship in what is today Indiana County.
In the early 1900s our family purchased the nearly 200 acre tract of land that is our current farm today. In 1979 my grandfather, William Tomb, and my grandmother, Georgene Tomb, purchased this land from my grandfather’s siblings after the passing of their father. In 2016 this land was transferred into a family trust as a way to preserve the farm for future generations. Tomb Farm LLC was formed at this time as a limited liability company for business dealings associated with the farm.
In the fall of 2019 William Snyder (grandson of William Tomb), and family, moved from the State College area back to Brush Valley to take a more active role in the management and rejuvenation of the farm and associated lands. Our current ventures include shiitake mushroom cultivation, raising Scottish Highland beef cattle, cage-free chicken eggs, and CBD hemp cultivation and associated product development.
Moving forward we intend to continue improving land and associated farming infrastructure to ensure the Tomb Farm legacy for another 200 years!
